Allington Pharmacy

Allington Pharmacy is a retail pharmacy with a focus on gluten-free products, baby & child care and diabetes care.  It’s based at the Canewood Business Centre in St.Michael.  They are open on Sunday mornings too which is handy when you want to do some Sunday afternoon gluten free baking!  Check their Facebook page for offers too.  The lovely Greigarious Gluten Free present educational sessions occasionally too so keep an eye out for future events (although I will share on my Facebook page too).

Coming from Warrens or from Hothersal Turning: make your way to Canewood and turn onto the road that takes you to Dwellings & Liliplum.

After you turn onto the road to Canewood Industrial Park, you will see Frank B. Armstrong on your right, followed by the Mill (restaurant next to the old mill) and Do It Best on your left.
Allington Pharmacy is loacted in the Canewood Business Centre which is the blue building on the right (in the corner) after Do It Best.

Coffee Barbados Cafe

If you want the best coffee in town alongside a slice of gluten free cake, you’ve found the right place.  This is a beautiful coffee shop within the grounds of the George Washington House, The Garrison, St Michael.  It is a perfect venue for breakfast or lunch.  There is seating inside and outside and the decor is clean, fresh and the smells are just devine.   The staff are warm and friendly too.   The breakfast menu is very tempting and I’m still salivating over a recent frittata!

They also take bookings if there is a large group of you!

Green Gourmet

 Shelly Gellineau provides a lunch delivery service 3 times a week.  She creates and delivers healthy food, gluten free bread and dips/spreads.   I implore you to look at her Facebook page and salivate at the photos of her delicious food.

Lemon Grass Noodle Bar & Grill

Lemongrass Noodle Bar & Grill is set within the Limegrove shopping centre in Holetown, St.James.   There are many delicious modern Asian dishes and they offer rice noodles in place of any wheat noodles.  They also use naturally fermented Kikkoman soy sauce which is gluten free.   The reviews on Trip Advisor are very good.

They do takeaway too!  A great venue for either lunch for dinner.

Cost-U-Less is another large warehouse style supermarket as Price Smart, but there is no membership fee.   Another nice bonus is that you can receive $5 dollar vouchers off your next shop when you spend a certain amount.   It is based in Welches, St. Thomas which is a growing shopping area (and has a small fountain which delights me..!).

Personally, I love the range of vegetables here (they have jalapeno peppers and spring onions that I have not found elsewhere).   The big packs of salad and spinach are great too. They have also started to stock a variety of gluten free products in their bakery section too, which I started to notice is growing.  They have bread, wraps, cookies and cakes.    Their large bags of pecan nuts are the cheapest in town (so far as I have noticed).  Great for making pecan cookies!  I found the warehouse stores great for buying large bags of nuts to make nut butter or flour with.

The staff are friendly and very helpful.  It’s so nice to see a high level of customer service at a large store (which sadly can be lacking here).

Bliss Cafe

The Bliss Cafe is a family run cafe, located the Dover side of the St Lawrence Gap, near to the Time Out Hotel and Express-Rent-A-Car. They serve 7 different types of Gluten Free Waffles, 2 types of Gluten Free Toasties and 3 types of Gluten Free Salads.   The fresh juices and the coffee are fantastic too!

It’s a wonderful friendly cafe with amazing food. The waffles, alone, are in a league of their own and it is the perfect place to have breakfast.  The reviews on Trip Advisor are very good!   Make this cafe part of your morning routine!  You will not be disappointed!

Brown Sugar Restaurant


This is just amazing! AMAZING!  Not only is Brown SugarRestaurant providing a Gluten Free Buffet on a Friday, the menu is based on Barbadian food.  This is just perfect, gluten free and keeping it authentic!  I am just beyond delighted!  They even understand what gluten is and the intolerance that many people have for it.    Well done, Brown Sugar, well done!  A big round of applause for the Head Chef Madalyn Foster!  We need more of you on the island!

Bread Sticks (Almond Flour)

Yes, bread sticks!  Delicious with Marinara sauce or simply by themselves…and even better..low carb and gluten free! Woohoo!  Who said being healthy has to be boring or you have to give up your favourite foods?  If eating this good is wrong, I don’t want to be right…A great thing about this mixture is that it will keep in the refrigerator, ready for you to cook up a fresh batch as when needed.  Keep it covered or in an airtight container though.

Low carb and gluten free breadsticks..These are version 3 with Mozzarella…

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies

I have tried this recipe with using just peanuts and grinding my own butter, and also with a jar of peanut butter.  The version with the ground nuts wins hands down over the already made peanut butter which I suspect is due to the oils added to the jar.  The short story is make your own peanut butter.  It’s just so simple to make and delicious too.  Throw a couple of cups of peanuts into the food processor, blitz until you have a butter.  You can sweeten it to your own taste without any nasty additives thrown in.   These are currently the number 1 cookie recipe in our house.  What amazes me is just how easy they are to make.  Although I add high cocoa chocolate chips to the mixture, these cookies would be just as delicious without them and perhaps some added seasoning.  Cinnamon perhaps?



They are just lovely the next day and seem to firm up when left in the fridge, keeping their soft centre.  The joy of cookie baking using nut butters!  Gluten free and low carb goodness in cookie form!

Coconut Chicken Skewers

This is a quick and easy to make chicken dish that can be enjoyed cold or hot.  The blend of the Thai curry sauce and coconut go wonderfully together.   A great snack for parties and also something to keep the husband quiet when he is hungry but does not want a large meal.  Although he will end up scoffing the lot.   It is so easy to make too!  I love dishes that look like you have made an effort but in truth were so easy to whip up. It can be a snack or a main dish…depending upon how many you eat!
