A beautiful and stylish gem on the north of the islands. It is part of a luxury boutique spa and the restaurant is part of a converted fort that sits directly on the beach .T he decor and the surroundings are simply beautiful. The reviews on Trip Advisor are excellent and the lobster in particular is raved over. The food is very well prepared and there is a great casual atmosphere. Do book ahead as it is very popular.
Tides is a beautiful fine dining restaurant in Holetown, St James with a location on the edge of the beach, overlooking the beautiful tranquil waters of the west coast. The menu has many choices and the kitchen is just great with allergies. The restaurant receives rave reviews on Trip Advisor and is ranked #1 for restaurants in Holetown.
This cafe based near Sunset Crest on the West Coast in Saint James and is full of gluten free delights. The food is fresh and the atmosphere simply delightful. Try the cassava bread with scrambled eggs and cheese for breakfast! It will keep you going all morning. There is a great range of drinks, smoothies, breakfasts, lunches, pancakes, salads, wraps and sweet delights. Takeaway is available too.

One of my favourite gluten free flours is coconut flour which is easily purchased in Barbados. Although you need a microwave for this I have not yet tried to see if it can be baked. Since coconut flour is high in fibre, this will be very filling as well as tasty. You could add other ingredients to the cheese too, some ham or tomatoes. Yummy!
These stores used to be known as Super Centre’s but have now been changed to Massy stores. Nothing has changed inside the store, just a re-branding really. I have found this branch of supermarket to have the largest range of gluten free products..ALTHOUGH they still have a few things to learn about cross-contamination! (Gluten free products amongst the regular flour!). The branch at Warrens, St Michael’s has the largest range, and more importantly, have a separate Gluten Free section so there is no cross contamination. They do stock gluten free wraps which are found within the bread section so there may be a cross contamination problem with those. I’ve also come across fresh gluten free bread in the chiller section and also in the frozen section. However, within the separate Gluten Free section there are oats, cereal, biscuits, cake and cookie mixes, bread, pasta and crisps. The branch at the Sky Mall at Haggarts Hall has been refurbished and also has a separate gluten free section under “Healthfoods”.
All supermarkets will also stock cassava flour and sweet potato flour. Try the plantain chips too.
There are branches at Sunset Crest, Holetown, (St James), Warrens, (St. Michael), Worthing, Sargeants Village, Oistins, (Christ Church), Sky Mall (Haggart Hall, St.Michael)
This shop is found within the Sheraton Mall, Christ Church by the main entrance. It is a great health food shop that stocks a great range of health food supplies and stocks Gluten Free flours, cereals and goods.
This is like a Costco where you purchase items in bulk and you have to purchase an annual membership. I include this in the supermarket section purely for its selection of nuts which are great for making your own flour. I purchase large bags of almonds to make my own flour. They also stock flaxseed, walnuts and pecans in large bags. They are located in Warrens, St. Michael.
The main branch in Bridgetown is a grocery store, bookstore and café in one. It’s tucked away on the 2nd floor of the Lantern Mall in Hastings (across from KFC). This is a health food shop that also has a snack bar serving Vegan and Gluten Free cakes in the cafe. The store stocks a great range of gluten free flours and products as well as natural beauty supplies. It also has a small bookstore within it. There is also one in the Lanterns shopping mall in Hastings, Christchurch but they only sell the shakes and cakes, not hot food.
Check their Facebook page for their daily menu for their Bridgetown branch. The reviews on Trip Advisor are great too!
Holders Farmer Market is an organic market set in the grounds of the historic Holders House grounds every Sunday from 9am to 2pm.
